Simple chocolate tart recipe with an easy homemade pastry crust!

This chocolate tart recipe is a great dessert for sharing with friends and family and is a lot easier to make than it looks! Pairing great with any topping you like such as cream, fruit or ice cream, this delicious chocolate tart recipe creates everything from scratch for a yummy homemade dessert.

My Notes:

I love chocolate tarts, but I've found that sometimes they can be very rich and overpowering. This is why I love this baked chocolate tart recipe so much - it's chocolatey but not too sweet so perfect for pairing with fruit and cream! I also love this recipe as you don't have to buy those expensive pre-made pastry cases as this pastry crust is really easy to make with basic ingredients.

Serves: 12 Slices

Prep Time: 20 Minutes (+20 to chill)

Cooking Time: 30 Minutes

Allergies: Contains Dairy & Egg

Please note these are only rough nutritional facts and will depend on the specific ingredients used.

Ingredients:

Pastry Crust:

80g Butter/Stork

40g Golden Caster Sugar

120g Self-Raising Flour

Filling:

75g Butter/Stork

100g Dark Chocolate

75g Golden Caster Sugar

50g Plain Flour

4 Eggs, Beaten

Method:

  1. To make the pastry crust, begin by creaming together the butter and sugar.

  2. Sift in the flour and mix well.

  3. Press the dough together with your hands until it creates a ball. Press the dough into the base of a 21cm tart tin. Use your fingers to even the dough out and around the edges.

  4. Place the tin in the fridge to chill for 20 minutes.

  5. Once chilled, preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas mark 4.

  6. Prick the pastry crust all over with a fork, then bake in the oven for 15 minutes until just golden.

  7. To make the chocolate filling, melt the butter and chocolate together in a pan.

  8. Once melted, stir in the sugar and sifted flour and mix well.

  9. Add the beaten eggs one by one and mix until completely combined.

  10. Pour the chocolate mix evenly over the base. It should just about fill it.

  11. Carefully place in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until just set at the edges but still slightly shiny in the middle. This will set later.

  12. Leave to cool then place the tart in the fridge to chill.

  13. Cut into 12 even pieces and enjoy!

My Tips:

  1. When placing the dough into the tin, make sure to press down and even it out. This may take a bit of time but you don't want it to be uneven or it won't cook the same!

  2. Make sure to keep stirring when melting the chocolate and butter.

  3. Be careful when pouring the chocolate mix and placing it in the oven as it will be a liquid and will nearly fill the tin.

  4. I suggest cutting into 12 equal pieces, but feel free to cut into as many as you like!

  5. This baked chocolate tart recipe is great when served alone or with accompaniments such as cream, ice cream and fruit. I also topped with some icing sugar to make it look pretty.
