The perfect gooey and chocolatey daytime treat!

Who doesn't love a good chocolate brownie? This recipe is for what I call 'classic' brownies, meaning gooey in the middle, flaky on top and just the right size for a daytime snack with a cup of tea or coffee. Made with simple ingredients, this brownie recipe can be whipped up in around 15 minutes, so you can enjoy a delicious treat without all the fuss!

My Notes:

Brownies are on of my favourites and this classic recipe is one I have been using since I was a kid! This recipe is super simple - you can mix it all in one bowl and you don't need any special equipment. Using melted dark chocolate instead of cocoa powder, this brownie recipe has a lovely chocolatey taste and the well-known soft texture in the middle. Plus, if you do it right, they're also flaky on top and have the perfect balance for the best brownie recipe you can try!

Serves: 16 Brownies

Prep Time: 15 Minutes

Cooking Time: 25-30 Minutes

Allergies: Contains Dairy & Egg

Please note these are only rough nutritional facts and will depend on the specific ingredients used.

Ingredients:

110g/4oz Dark Chocolate

110g/4oz Butter/Stork

225g/8oz Caster Sugar

2 Eggs, Beaten

110g/4oz Plain Flour

1/2 tsp Baking Powder

Pinch of Salt

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a baking tray (9x9 inch) with baking paper.

  2. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a pan, bain marie or microwave.

  3. Add the sugar and beaten eggs and mix well.

  4. Sift in the flour, baking powder and salt and carefully fold in.

  5. Pour the batter into the lined baking tray and even out.

  6. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until flakey on top and firm to touch.

  7. Leave to cool in the tray before transferring to a cooling rack.

  8. Cut into slices.

  9. Enjoy!

Tips:

  1. You can use any size baking tray you like, however, I prefer a 9x9 inch tray as I find this gives the perfect thickness to the brownies with this amount of batter.

  2. I like to cut my brownies into even squares that are 1-1 1/2 inches in size. This gives 16 pieces. If you want more or less, you can cut them to whatever size you like! This recipe will also easily cut into 8 large slices if you prefer.

  3. If you want to make more brownies, simply double the recipe and use a bigger baking tray!

  4. Make sure to sift the flour into the mixture so that you don't get any lumps.

  5. Why not try shaking it up and adding your own extra ingredients? Try adding 110g/4oz of chopped walnuts into the batter or add a handful of smarties or your favourite chocolate bar to the top once cooked!
